Professional Synopsis

 

Teresa Flateby, in the field of higher education assessment for over fifteen years, recently formed an assessment consulting firm, T.L. Flateby and Associates. Prior, she was the Director of Academic Assessment at the University of South Florida (USF), and before this appointment, she was the Director of Evaluation and Testing. She has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Educational Measurement and Research.

Terri has facilitated numerous assessment workshops for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Association of American Colleges and Schools, American Association for Higher Education, IUPUI’s Assessment Institute, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Best Practices Institute, as well as for regional conferences, such as New Mexico Higher Education Assessment and Retention Conference and North Carolina State University’s Undergraduate Assessment Symposium.

She has provided assessment consultation with individual institutions, such as Columbus State University, South Dakota State University, Central Carolina Community College, Clark-Atlanta University, Mississippi University for Women, New College of Florida, and Alabama A & M University. She also has consulted with institutions about accreditation reports and Quality Enhancement Plans for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ reaffirmation requirement.

She is the primary developer of the Cognitive Level and Quality of Writing Assessment (CLAQWA) online system, which supports assessment and instruction from the classroom to the program and institutional levels. With the CLAQWA system, both strengths and weaknesses in students’ writing and critical thinking can be identified and addressed. Her most recent publication, Improving Writing and Thinking through Assessment is in press.
